Capital Health Neurosurgeon Presents at XIV World Congress of Neurological Surgery of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies in Boston
BOSTON, MA (September 2, 2009) – Dr. Erol Veznedaroglu, director of Neurosciences and Endovascular and Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery at Capital Health is presenting at the XIV World Congress of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) this week.
Hosted by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), an estimated 2,500 attendees from more than 80 countries are expected to attend. This premier international neurosurgical meeting is taking place at the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
During the meeting Dr. Veznedaroglu will teach and demonstrate the nuances of embolization for arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) during a hands on course about the endovascular treatment of hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke. In addition, Veznedaroglu will lecture on Neurocritical Care Management of Cerebrovascular Patients to neuroscience nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who are participants in the meeting for the first time. A dual-trained neurosurgeon, and a leader in the field of endovascular and cerebrovascular neurosurgery, Veznedaroglu joined Capital Health’s team earlier this year. He is frequently asked to speak at neurosurgical conferences and provide hands on education to other neurosurgeons.
“As a physician one of the most important things I can do, outside providing outstanding care to my patients, is to help advance the field of neurological surgery,” said Veznedaroglu who co-authored an important study recently published in Neurosurgery that looked at the risk of retreating aneurysms. “Meetings like this bring together the best, most forward thinking minds in the field and at the end of the day patients around the world benefit.”
The Congress focuses on the latest research and technological advances in the field of international neurosurgery. “This meeting provides an unparalleled venue for neurosurgeons to share firsthand experiences with like-minded colleagues from diverse areas of the world, and further, bring their unique surgical and cultural perspectives to the table,” said WFNS President Jacques Brotchi, MD, PhD.
Leading neurosurgeons and neuroscientists from across the world will cover state-of-the-art concepts, recent advances, and emerging trends in general neurosurgery, as well as subspecialty disciplines including cerebrovascular, neurotrauma, neuro-oncology, pediatrics, peripheral nerve, skull-based, spine and stereotactic/functional.
“This meeting presents a phenomenal setting for neurosurgeons and researchers to not only present a dazzling array of neurosurgical research and innovations, but to participate in international camaraderie amid the culturally and historically rich backdrop of Boston,” stated XIV World Congress of Neurological Surgery President Roberto C. Heros, MD.
Founded in 1955, the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) is a professional, scientific, non-governmental organization comprising 5 Continental Associations, 98 National Neurosurgical Societies and 6 Affiliate Societies, representing some 30,000 neurosurgeons worldwide.
Founded in 1931 as the Harvey Cushing Society, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) is a scientific and educational association with over 7,400 members worldwide. The AANS is dedicated to advancing the specialty of neurological surgery in order to provide the highest quality of neurosurgical care to the public. All active members of the AANS are Board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or the Mexican Council of Neurological Surgery, A.C.
Earlier this year, Capital Health opened the Stroke and Cerebrovascular Center of New Jersey and added two of the nation’s leading neurosurgeons -- Dr. Veznedaroglu and Dr. Kenneth Liebman -- to its staff. In addition to Drs. Veznedaroglu and Liebman, an experienced team joined them, bringing an advanced level of care to patients suffering from cerebrovascular disease.
Drs. Veznedaroglu and Liebman are two of fewer than 60 doctors nationwide who are dual-trained neurosurgeons.
Capital Health ranks among the top 10 percent in the nation for treatment of stroke according to HealthGrades®, a ranking it has earned for the past two years. Capital Health Regional Medical Center is certified as a New Jersey Comprehensive Stroke Center, the highest state designation available. Capital Health has also been awarded certification from The Joint Commission - the gold standard for stroke care. The Stroke and Cerebrovascular Center of New Jersey represents Capital Health’s $30 million investment to bring state-of-the-art stroke and cerebrovascular care to New Jersey. The Center uses the most advanced biplane angiography system available.
